The Mic Drop

Be a Better Guest | Be a Better Host

Two books titled "The Mic Drop" by Penny Terry. The book on the left has a teal cover, and the one on the right has a pink cover. Both books have the title in large white letters with the subtitle "How to make every appearance on podcasts, panels and in the media resonate" on the teal book and "How to create the conditions that make every podcast, meeting and event resonate" on the pink book. The author's logo is at the bottom of each book.

It started as a simple handout and ended up as a 2-in-1 handbook.

Pfft. Classic me.

Whether you're the one asking the questions or answering them, this flip-format resource helps you become a stronger host and a sharper guest - on stage, on mic, and in all the moments that matter.

I’ve decoded what I’ve learned over two decades as a broadcaster, podcaster, speaker, facilitator and executive coach and packed it up into a clever little format for leaders, podcasters, change makers and subject matter experts who want to make their mark and make it matter.

I’ve blended my real-world experience with evidence, insights and inspiration from some of the world’s best communication minds to create practical tools and tested frameworks that work in the moments that count.

This book is for anyone who wants to create more mic-dropping moments on stage, in meetings, in the media and during important conversations. Inside you’ll find real stories, close to 100 strategies and multiple studies you can use before, during and after each mic-dropping moment.

Creating Community Storytellers

Unleashing Early Years Advocates.

Cover of a book titled 'Creating Community Storytellers, Unleashing Early Years Advocates'. The book is written by Storytelling and Influential Communication expert Penny Terry, published by the Tasmanian Government and B4 Early Years Coalition.

Creating Community Storytellers is a practical and inspiring guide that helps everyday people become powerful advocates for young children.

Over five years, I worked alongside the Department for Education, Children and Young People and the B4 Early Years Coalition to develop and deliver a project strengthening the voices of those already making a difference in their communities. This book is the culmination of those learnings.

It offers a clear and accessible approach to improving outcomes for young children and their families by changing the way messages are shared. At its heart is a simple but powerful goal: to make sure the right messages reach the right people, in the right way.

Part guidebook, part call-to-action, Creating Community Storytellers shows how personal stories, local knowledge and genuine connection can shift thinking, build momentum, and lead to real change.

Perfect for parents, educators, business owners, and community leaders who want to play a meaningful role in creating communities where every child can thrive - starting now!

Not (yet) Books

I see story ideas everywhere.

Some are profound, others are batshit crazy. Either way, I’ve been trained over years to capture those stories and test them in the wild. That is, with you.

I write regularly on Substack about influence, communication, leadership, podcasting, questions, stories, key messages and how to lead well in the moments where meaning gets lost or found.

Some pieces are short and reflective. Others go deeper into ideas I’m still working through.

Some are great, and I still love them; others are hmmmm, let’s say experimental?

This feed will update here, but you’ll feel way cooler if you follow along directly on Substack. It’s where all the cool(ish) people hang out.

They even give you a QR code for signing up!

That is cool-ish.
